My ideal Nikon APS-C setup

Recently I made a lot of fuss on Facebook in a discussion where people misunderstood the point I was making as a statement that nobody needs full frame DSLR cameras and that they have no technological advantage at all. And I was just saying that their advantage over contemporary APS-C sensors is overrated, as many people with little photographic experience are rushing into upgrading their system to full frame bodies as some “magic wand” for their personal photographic advance, without taking into account all the aspects that full frame brings. Those aspects that I took into account last year when I decided to upgrade my system, but remain on the APS-C format. Continue reading “My ideal Nikon APS-C setup”

Is eco-fascism gaining ground in Romania?

A lot of fuss has been raised in Romania about an alleged “vandalism” of a few offroad-vehicle owners, accusing them of driving where they shouldn’t and damaging private property. It was covered in this article, which put Facebook on fire with hate speach coming from various “hikers” and so called “ecologists”.

Return to Ommadawn – sećanje na bezbrižnost

Ommadawn.

My photography upgrade

What made me decide to remain a photography conservative and stick to DSLR?

I’m not one of those guys who buy a new camera every season, and have a personal museum of old cameras. When I buy a camera, it’s “for good” (or lets say, the next 10 years, or at least until a revolutionary technological breakthrough occurs). So when I choose a camera, I want to be absolutely sure it’s something that can perfectly blend into my photography habits, and have everything I need in order not to wish for an upgrade next season already. I’m also not one of those guys who spend enormous amounts of money on top class professional cameras and lenses – I rather tend to search for my product of choice in the mid range amateur enthusiast market.

The value of time

As you become older you realise what truly matters in life.

It’s time.

The only thing that you can’t buy. Once it’s gone, you can’t bring it back. What you’ve missed to do with your life, you’ve missed for good. So how rich you are is not determined by the balance in your bank account, but by the time that you have available to devote to things that matter. That is what makes you really free.

Why the brand exclusive offroad events have no future?

I honestly don’t believe that brand exclusive offroad events and gatherings are a thing to be crazy about (except for the bosses of the car industry). Marketing departments of various brands do invest quite an effort to organize them, as well as support brand exclusive clubs, which is understandable. They want to position themselves as THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE OFFROAD BRAND, to thrive on a tradition and get to the emotions of people, to tie them closer to the brand and secure future sales. But, from a purely personal, psychological point of view, such bonds are unnatural. By choosing friends with the vehicle they drive as the main criteria, we’re making too much of a compromise. We’re forcing ourselves to tolerate some jerks that we normally wouldn’t be ready to, only because they’ve chosen to drive the same brand of offroad vehicle as we do. And that can be very stressful, and influence your mood in quite a bad way. It’s bad compromise.

Offroading and nature – between truth and myth

Contemporary ecologists usually regard motorized vehicles as enemy #1 of life on our planet. They talk about cities without cars, sustainable development, renewable energy sources, repeating the same phrases over and over again as mantras with a strong dogmatic power, without feeling the need to substantiate or offer proof for any of the claims. If anyone dares to ask for proof of these, to put it pollitely, half-truths, if anyone dares to call those claims exagerration and asks for scientific tests or measurements, he becomes cast off, mocked, regarded as “barberian”. So contemporary ecology moves in big steps in the direction of a new religion, in which people believe without questioning, and where anyone who doubts any of the dogmas becomes a heretic, rejected by the society which embraced the new religion.
